Small steps, BIG outcomes! It’s Walk to School Week (17-21 May)

Are you taking part in this national five-day event challenges primary school children to walk to school every day for one week? It’s organised by Living Streets, the charity for everyday walking, and this year’s fabulous theme is ‘Super Powers’.

Each day of the week, a different comic super hero will highlight how brilliant walking is as a way to get to and from school. The challenge will show how small steps can result in big outcomes, from healthier, happier children to fewer cars outside the school gates.

Monday – Super Strong
Tuesday – Super Smart
Wednesday – Super Smiley
Thursday – Super Safe
Friday – Super Sustainable

A generation ago, 70% of us walked to school, according to Living Streets. Today, it’s less than half. So whether you are exploring how walking to school can work for you, look into setting up a Park and Stride or want to campaign for better routes, their Family Walk to School Kit is here to help; click here to download it.

And if your child’s school hasn’t yet signed up, there are many ways they can help get the whole school involved – just send them the link to the website and ask them to sign up!

Whatever you do, please let us know! You can either email us on ITBLearning@leeds.gov.uk and if you tag us on Twitter @ConnectingLeeds (also @livingstreets) we will amplify your school’s voice far and wide! Use hashtags #WalktoSchoolWeek and #WalkingSuperpowers
