FOR SCHOOLS / TEACHERS
You Look… but do you see?
If you are a school, check out our fantastic new film & lesson offer, which tackles the issue of mobile phones and road safety for transition students in a fun, original way. We’ve got a lesson plan and accompanying Powerpoint ready for you to use.
You can download these from the ‘Information’ column on our Leeds for Learning page.
Starting secondary school is a particularly critical time in terms of road safety, with a spike in casualties among pedestrians aged 11-15. This is often when young people begin to walk independently to school and elsewhere. Those used to travelling by bus or car are likely to have less ‘road sense’. Even those who have walked alone before will be on a new route.
Last year, we worked with secondary schools in Leeds to create three fun short films and one podcast about one of the biggest issues: distraction. Here’s what they came with.
- Film 1: (with Wetherby High) An Awareness Test
- Film 2: (with John Smeaton Academy) Perception and Reality
- Film 3: (with Benton Park) Harry Potter and the Curse of the Mobile Phone
- Film compilation
- An Audio Awareness Test, Quiz and ‘I’m a Celebrity’ Sketch: A road safety podcast by Chapel FM Arts Centre, Leeds
Please help us share this content widely; while the primary audience is transition students, the issue of distraction can affect all road-users.
